More Legal Services

In addition to world-class representation, the top California attorneys of The Kavinoky Law Firm also provide numerous other legal services, including expungement, post-conviction relief, appeals, and professional license defense. No matter what your legal needs, our skilled attorneys are here to help.

Many individuals convicted of California criminal offenses worry that their records will follow them throughout their lives, creating hurdles to meaningful employment, educational opportunities, housing, etc. However, that’s not always the case. Expungement, an appeal, or another form of post-conviction relief may help you restore your reputation and clear your good name.

Expungement is the process of petitioning the court to remove your California criminal conviction from the public record.  If you complete the requirements and the court approves your petition, it’s as if your California criminal conviction never occurred, with a few exceptions. You can honestly answer ‘no’ when asked on job applications whether you’ve ever been convicted of a crime. You must only divulge the conviction on applications for public office, law-enforcement jobs, and in a few other instances.

At one time, it was possible to have a California criminal conviction expunged simply by fulfilling the terms of your sentence and petitioning the court. However, recent changes in California law now require that you attend a hearing that allows a judge to consider your expungement petition. However, don’t allow this to dissuade you from pursuing an expungement – it’s still entirely possible to clear your criminal record through this avenue.

Unfortunately, only misdemeanor offenses can be expunged in California, but if you have a felony conviction, you can petition the court to reduce it to a misdemeanor. If this occurs, you can then petition to have the misdemeanor conviction expunged.

You have the right to appeal any judgment of the court imposed after trial as a result of a conviction, or any order after judgment that affects your rights substantially. However, you have a limited amount of time after judgment to launch your appeal. A skilled appellate attorney from The Kavinoky Law Firm can review your case and determine your options regarding appeal.

If you’re convicted of California DUI or another criminal offense, it can affect your professional license, but an experienced attorney can fight to protect your reputation and your livelihood. Doctors, lawyers, psychologists, real estate agents, chiropractors and other licensed professionals all risk action against their licenses after an arrest and/or conviction, but you’re entitled to have an attorney fight the action.

Whether you need an attorney for expungement, post-conviction relief, an appeal, or a professional licensing issue, the experienced California lawyers of The Kavinoky Law Firm have the skills you need to help resolve your issue.
